Bank of America Museums on Us Event !

This weekend, Saturday January 3rd and Sunday the 4th, it’s time for another Bank of America: Museums on Us Event!  That means Bank of America and Merrill Lynch card holders can get FREE admission to museums across the country!  There are more than 150 locations participating in the event and you can find the entire list HERE.

Don’t forget about their Museums on Us mobile site. You can check it out here on your mobile phone: http://museums.bankofamerica.com. This would be great for people traveling who might want to check to see if the city they are visiting has a participating museum.

Journey to Bethleham at First Presbyterian in Lakeland

 


Share the story of Jesus' birth with the folks at the First Presbyterian Church, Lakeland as we host the "Journey to Bethlehem" drive-thru experience. This unique take on the living nativity allows drivers to hear and see scenes played out from the Bible while sipping hot chocolate without ever leaving their vehicles.

Florida State Park Holiday events

Fort Foster State Historic Site in Thonotosassa is bringing the holiday season to life. 
Visitors are invited to the Candlelight Experience at the site on Fri. Dec. 12 and Sat. Dec. 13 from 6 to 9pm to follow a lantern-lit trail through the military fort and Seminole camp. This annual event in Downtown Lakeland celebrates the holidays with shopping, dining, music, horse-drawn wagon rides and more! Holiday music from many area schools and churches create a festive atmosphere. And don’t forget shopping!  If you want a gift that doesn’t say I was mass produced in a department store, then shopping in Downtown Lakeland is for you.  Stores and restaurants will be open from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
Free parking will be available at the main street garage. The public parking entrance is located on Cedar St. The Bay Street entrance is also open and can be accessed from Tennessee


Kicking off the holiday festivities in Lakeland, this annual event in Downtown Lakeland celebrates with shopping, dining, music, horse-drawn wagon rides, Santa and more!


Lakeland Christmas Parade 2014

On Thursday, December 4th the 34th Annual Christmas parade, sponsored by The Junior League of Greater Lakeland, will kick off at 7:00 pm with a fantastic fireworks display over Lake Mirror. 

Over 100 organizations will be participating in this year’s event. The parade will leave the Lakeland center and make its way down Lemon Street twisting and turning through Downtown Lakeland.
Streets along the parade route will begin closing at 5:30 pm. Additional parking will be available after 5:00 pm in the Downtown parking garages and parking lots.

The annual Polk State College Fallfest will be Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The festival is free but there are some fee based activities and crafts for sale.

 Fallfest wouldn’t be Fallfest without the hundreds of handmade crafts on display. The craft show is the foundation of Fallfest. The fall event has grown considerably in the years. From popular crafts to other exciting events, thousands enjoy the festival each year.

Fallfest is a fund raiser with proceeds going to various student organizations and the Polk State College Foundation. The Polk State College Foundation supports the College’s educational mission in many ways, including establishing scholarships and purchasing equipment for students. Fees from craft booths and other sales go to the Polk State College Foundation to benefit our deserving students.
Polk State College always strives to be a world class college — whether it’s in the classroom or in service to our community. The collaboration of Polk State’s student and employee volunteers and participating groups make Fallfest the pleasurable event that it is.

We will be setting up at the Winter Haven Public Library from 9am to 2pm and doing Demonstrations for the kids and adults who want to stop by.

At the kids table, there will be stations for spool knitting and cardboard weaving... each child will get a kit to work with and will get to leave with that kit, so that they can create at their homes as well.

Even if all you do is stay for 30 minutes, we would love to have you there... each person creates differently, so this is the perfect opportunity to share with the public that you can create many different ways :)

Setup will be around 8:30am and breakdown will be at 2pm

  • Cheryl Floyd uses her heritage to weave great Cajun stories that will conjure up images and sounds unlike any other.

  • Robin Schulte tells unique stories in a unique way that will keep you spellbound and hanging on every word
  • “Sing N’ Tell” with Linda Chancey and Connie Trama are from Polk County and work with the local public libraries. They have been telling tales to local schools and library groups and continue to enlighten everyone with old and new stories.

Don't miss the Lakeland Florida Book Fair on October 10, 11, 12
at The Lakeland Center located 701 Lime Street; Lakeland, Florida.


This is a community event that welcomes authors, book sellers, publishers, illustrators and the book industry to come together and present their books to a wide audience from all over Florida and beyond.


October 10th, the Lakeland Book Fair will be open to Florida Schools to come and let their students experience a lifetime opportunity of meeting authors and seeing who is behind those books.


This same day the Book Fair will be open to the trade by presentation of a business card. The Book Fair will also be open to media and press.

October 11, 12, the Lakeland Book Fair will be open to the general public with an admission charge of $8.00 that includes free parking at The Center. 


Twenty-five percent of the admission will go to charity READ Polk. Children are admitted free. Guests may sign up for a free book during the Book Fair.

SPCA Florida Kids' Day

Today starting at 10AM! Treat the children in your life to a very special book reading and signing with Lakeland native Chris Fox who recently published his first children’s book, “What Would You Do If You Found a Box?” Chris will be on hand to read the book, which was inspired by the two kittens he adopted from SPCA Florida in Lakeland and sign purchased copies. A percentage of the sales will benefit SPCA Florida’s homeless animals. Children are encouraged to bring their “injured” stuffed animals and SPCA Florida veterinarian will perform “Teddy Bear Surgery” at noon. There will also be pet-themed crafts and games for the children to enjoy. Don’t miss this unique opportunity!
