3rd Annual Chalk for Charity Event:
February 1, 2014 in downtown Lakeland, FL
The 3rd Annual Chalk for Charity fundraiser will be presented by the Knights of Columbus and the Lakeland Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Artists will use chalk and liquid tempera as their medium. The artwork will be done on Kentucky Avenue and Main Street in downtown Lakeland, Florida.
Chalk for Charity attendees can purchase tokens to cast votes for their favorite works of art. Prizes will be awarded to the artists who receive the most votes. There will also be Professional and Amateur Awards presented. Attendees can enjoy at least one interactive 3D piece.
There will be a children's area where parents, grandparents, and guardians can purchase small squares for children to display their creativity.
Parking in city garages will be free during the event.
Artist will begin their work early Saturday morning. Public viewing and voting for Chalk for Charity will take place from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Official judging of the outdoor art will begin at 4:00 p.m. The streets will remain closed for viewing the art until 10 p.m. (View photos of last year's event by clicking here.)
The monies raised from this year’s event will go to fund Lakeland Knights of Columbus Global Wheelchair Mission and the Lakeland Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association (which supports police academy scholarships and projects of the Lakeland Police Department). The Global Wheelchair Mission provides wheelchairs to those in need around the world. Since 2003 over 20,000 wheelchairs have been donated.
