Dirt Days #2 RSVP now space is limited
My boys and I attended Dirt Days last year presented by www.friendsoftheparks.net and loved this program. The program is FREE you just have to RSVP since they limit how many children can attend each month. Each month, the program is at a different park location in Polk county and you learn about Florida friendly plants and get to actually plant some plants to help beautify the parks and even get to take a plant home with you each time!

We’re grilling up some hot dogs to go with whatever yummy “Pot Luck” side dish or dessert you would like to bring for a picnic lunch afterwards. Bring a BIG appetite and the recipe for your Pot Luck! You might even win a PRIZE!!
Learn how to properly take cuttings from the Wild Coffee native
plants growing in the landscaped beds at Christina Park. These
cuttings will grow to make more beautiful plants to keep our parks
looking really good. You will even get to take home one FREE Wild
Coffee plant for your own garden.
We will also weed and clean out the beds, trim back other plants
that need Spring Rehab and even pick up trash throughout the park.
Learn the ends-and-outs of taking care of your garden at home
from experienced Polk County Master Gardeners. Encourage
your adult partner to help our Florida Geocaching Friends and
other volunteers who are going to join us for SPRING CLEANING
at Christina Park.
Bring gloves and your favorite gardening tools. Sound too much
like work? We promise it will be FUN.

The Museum will be operating diesel powered excursions to our Easter Egg patch today! Upon arrival, many activities are planned including our annual Easter Egg Hunt. Mr. Bunny will also be available to greet all the children. The entire round-trip will last approximately 2.5 hours. The Party Caboose is also available for charter.

Flying Tigers Opening Day with Easter Egg hunt
Opening Day for the Lakeland Flying Tigers is right around
the corner. Join us on Saturday, April 7th at Joker Marchant Stadium when the
Flying Tigers take on the Tampa Yankees. Tickets start at just $6 and parking is
free. Children enjoy a special Easter Egg Hunt on the field after the game
followed by a fireworks extravaganza. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and first pitch is
scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Individual tickets will go on sale later this month.
Free magnet schedules will be given out at the gate. The Easter Bunny will make
a special appearance while kids search for more than 20,000 eggs on the field.

The Junior League of Greater Winter Haven presents the 4th Annual Family Fit Fest, a
day of fun for families with activities focusing on fitness, nutrition and
overall health awareness. This is a FREE event that caters to children of all ages!
The fourth annual Family Fit Fest is scheduled for
March 24, 2012 in downtown Winter Haven. This completely FREE event promotes
healthy living choices and will be lots of fun for the entire family.
Over 50 community partners will be in attendance to educate, entertain, and
entice event goers with the benefits of healthy living. Kids will have the
opportunity to learn about and make healthy snacks using fresh food donated by
local companies. The family fun run will make a lap around central park and
finishers wlll receive a free t-shirt! Other highlights of the event include
FREE health screenings, educational games, and informational booths.

Then let’s take a short hike to see some of the wonders of this 1,113-acre nature
preserve before gathering around the banks of Walk-in-Water Pond for some serious
fishing with family and friends!
Bring your garden shovel, bucket, fishing pole and a picnic lunch!
Dirt Day participants will learn how to grow Sand Cordgrass and
American Beautyberry. Help us plant these helpful natives at the
entrance of the preserve, and take a FREE plant with you to grow
at home. Use your bucket to carry water from the pond to give the
new plantings a healthy start.

- My family attended the Dirt Days last year and loved this program. Each month there is an activity at a local park where you can learn about local plants and the environment and you get to take a plant home with you to plan in your own yard and watch grow. The program is free and since they limit the amount of children it did not ever seem crowded. Make sure to RSVP early!
