Bartow Halloween, October 28th

For the 68th time in as many years, Bartow's Crickette Club is staging its annual Halloween parade and carnival to herald the season of ghosts and goblins.

The parade will begin Thursday at 4 p.m. at East Main Street and South First Avenue, snaking through downtown Bartow and south to Mosaic Park at the Bartow Civic Center.

There, the club's annual carnival will feature a cornucopia of amusement rides, games, food and live entertainment. The women of the Crickette Club began hosting the event to raise funds for its philanthropy programs, including its support of the local Girl Scouts.

The parade will feature marching bands, military units, political candidates and floats decorated by schools, churches and area businesses. The parade route moves west along East Main Street to Broadway Avenue, then south to Mosaic Park.

Bartow police will begin closing those roads at about 3:50 p.m., and detours will be marked. The carnival begins about 5 p.m. after the parade and continues until about 9:30 p.m.

Admission is free, and tickets for the rides and games will be available at the carnival. Food vendors will be on hand as well, and the club will host a costume contest during the carnival.
