Grow closer reading together!  For girls ages 9-12 and their mothers, grandmothers, aunts, big sisters or guardians.  Sign up at the Circulation desk and receive a free copy of the month's title.

WIZARD OF OZ Birthday Party!
Help us celebrate the birth of an American literary classic!  Learn how OZ came to be, test your knowledge, play "Pin The Wings on the Monkey" and try some Chocolate Witch's Hates and Melted Witch punch.  With Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!  In honor of creator Frank L. Baum, please wear green!

For ages 6-8 years old.  Refreshments will be served.  Preregistration is requested so we can ensure enough materials and refreshments are on hand.  Please ask at the desk or call the library to register.

Paws to Read Party for the Dogs
For years Paws to Read dogs and their handlers have visited the Bartow Public library every month, encouraging young readers and spreading canine cheer.
Saturday, May 18th will be the next visit by Shelby of Therapy Dogs International.  Please join Shelby from 10:30 am -11:30 am to help us show them how much we appreciate their faithful service. Cake, Frosty Paws and Dog Biscuits will be served.

Teen Programs!
Teen Wii
Come and enjoy playing various popular games such as Just Dance, Wii Basketball and Wii Play. For Grades 6 through 12. Refreshments will be served.

Brown Bag Concert Series
The Friends of the Library sponsored series is back! Bring your lunch and join us the 2nd Tuesday of each month October - May. All programs begin at 12 noon. Water and soft drinks will be provided courtesy of the Friends of the Library.
Next concert - the last of this season - is May 14th.

Pamplin Art Gallery
Union Academy Art students will be our featured artists in the library's gallery for May and June.  Their exhibit is COLOR YOUR WORLD and will be available for viewing every Monday and Tuesday afternoons.  A formal reception honoring the Union Academy art students will be this Tuesday May 7th @ 6 pm.

Shooting for Charity 2013

Shooting for Charity The Florida Southern College Men’s and Women’s soccer teams would like to invite you to “Shooting for Charity 2013” held on April 14th, from 2-4pm at Barnett Field on the campus of Florida Southern College. This event will be a two hour soccer clinic put on by the Men’s and Women’s Florida Southern College soccer players and coaches. The instructional clinic will be for all boys and girls, 5-15 years of age. Boys and girls will be placed in age and ability appropriate groups and will work through different stations, playing, learning and developing the different aspects of soccer. After the clinic, all players attending the event will have a chance to receive autographs from Florida Southern College soccer players. The event will be $20 for each participant. All proceeds will go towards The Roberts Academy, which is really a great cause. The Roberts Academy is a transitional elementary school dedicated to preparing talented students with dyslexia to succeed in a traditional classroom setting. Discovery Days – Great Escapes!

A literary escape into the Gardens!

Register Now

$10 per class. $55 all classes. 1 parent free per child. 10 a.m. – noon

Your child will discover nature’s joy in a whole new way with each week’s literary escape into the Gardens – all while playing outside and making new friends! We’ll take some of our favorite books outside and watch the words leap right off of the page as we explore new worlds together! Each week will feature a new book as we take a playful and informal approach to reading and nature appreciation – sure to uncover new treasures or reinvent old favorites. Readers of any level can participate whole-heartedly in all activities. Program is designed for children ages 6-12.

July 25: The Secret Garden by Francis Hodgson Burnet

August 1: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

Each program begins and ends at the Olmsted House with activities taking place outside in the Gardens. Parents are welcome to join their children as they participate in each program. A light snack and beverage will be provided (please bring a reusable water bottle). Please bring sun protection and a raincoat or umbrella.
